Nairobi Metropolitan ISWM

Under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project, this assignment delivered an integrated solid waste management (ISWM) plan for Nairobi City. The work included critical review and evaluation of prior planning efforts (ISWMP 2010-NCC, JICA, UNEP), development of a “3R” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and intermediate treatment implementation plan, and preparation of a cohesive, city-wide solid waste strategy. The result was a robust framework and actionable plan to guide Nairobi’s transition toward sustainable urban waste management in alignment with international best practices for rapidly growing cities.
